A New Era for A. Vezyroglou & Co.

A. Vezyroglou & Co.  has successfully completed its major investment, with the transition to its brand-new facilities already underway. Initial trial runs are already producing premium-quality, pre-washed baby leaves—a hallmark of the company’s output since 2006.

Exceeding €12 million, the investment features state-of-the-art industrial facilities (encompassing washing, drying, packaging, cold storage, and warehousing), alongside new administrative offices. Located next to the existing site in Schinas, Alexandria (Imathia), the complex spans a total land area of 100,000 sq.m., comprising a 6,000 sq.m. industrial plant and 1,200 sq.m. of office space.

The new industrial plant stands as the most modern facility in the fresh produce sector. It is specifically designed for the packaging of pre-washed baby leaves, utilizing cutting-edge technologies that safeguard produce quality and shelf-life, while securing a distinct competitive advantage in the Greek market. These advancements directly meet the demands of both retail professionals and consumers who seek exceptional quality combined with extended product shelf-life. 

The brand-new industrial facilities feature:

• Two washing, drying, and packaging lines with a daily production capacity of 6,000 kg of pre-washed greens.
• A modern washing system driven by AI technology for automated water regulation and recycling.
• An on-site wastewater treatment plant enabling 100% water reclamation for crop irrigation, significantly preserving natural water resources and reducing environmental impact.
• A gentle-flow drying and cooling tunnel utilizing an energy-efficient refrigeration cycle that minimizes electricity consumption. Furthermore, this innovative tunnel removes surface moisture without using a centrifugal dryer, protecting the delicate leaves from physical damage. This marks another company milestone, as it is the first tunnel of its kind introduced in Greece.
• An optical sorter equipped with advanced camera technology that inspects every single leaf to detect and reject unwanted foliage or foreign objects, elevating product quality and food safety.
• Glycol cold storage rooms and vacuum coolers that ensure instant chilling of vegetables within just one hour of harvest.

The new facility fully integrates Industry 4.0 standards, featuring:

• Internet of Things (IoT): Machines equipped with sensors that collect and analyze real-time production data (temperature, speed, wear-and-tear, etc.).
• Cloud & ERP/MES Systems: Advanced digital infrastructure for enterprise resource planning and manufacturing execution.
• Fully Connected Operations: Seamless, real-time integration across production, warehousing, quality control, and logistics.
